1. Dinan is great at building parts and cars, but they tend to be a little on the “inflated” side when it comes to HP/TQ numbers. And BMW always underrates their cars from the factory, so the “Dinan Difference” is often less drastic than it appears.

“The new M2 starts at $52,695 and makes 365 horsepower. The Dinan M235i is $53,947, makes 445 horsepower...”
Theres more to the M2 than badges and a tune. The M2 has wider fenders, it has the option of the DCT trans, M3 brakes, suspension, //M Active diff which can vary lock up, the crank and rods from the M3/M4s S55, has a special oil pump pickup, M3 wheels and rubber (rear I rhink is one size narrower than the M3).
This is an interesting article. Everytime I’ve ever made the tuner argument (or seen others make the same argument) you’d get lambasted for saying like “well, I could just tune a WRX to be better than a stock STI” and now it’s being recommended by a Jalop writer.
A tune on a M2 will make similar power.
The real problem is though that the Dinan is still a M235I and not an M2 which will make its resale value absolute garbage in years to come.
Have you not seen any of the Mad Max movies?
And the message is that we are too stupid to sell them at auction to recoup the money that taxpayers spent on apprehending the criminals and impounding their machines. We will just throw that money down the drain to make a statement of questionable value.
Nope... however, I don’t think it makes the cut for the reasons to try to run someone over?
Lots of people with shittier trucks that didn’t realize they were shitty just had a sad.
Wait, shitty truck? For reals? It doesn’t even have a blanket over the seats. Nice economic sturdy truck.
From a track oriented standpoint, I would look forward to using it in sportbikes.
Quickshifters are already removing the need for any clutch interaction on upshifts. And having a seamless shift under acceleration, especially at lean, is really important to keeping the chassis/suspension stable. The only worry I would…
I just don’t want to shift with any buttons. Gimme a foot lever and you can throw whatever trickery you want into the gearbox.
I’m looking forward to it. As someone who commutes a lot in stop and go traffic, I really don’t want to be bothered with shifting. I know motorcyclists are a luddite bunch and I am probably the odd duck, but I just see shifting at pointless given current technology.
Are DCT’s really necessary on sportbikes? I ask because computer-aided quickshifters have been around for years, and clutchless, autorev-matched downshifts are the latest greatest thing on the newest superbikes.
Sure, why not. A DCT has the potential to reduce lap times. I would make that the focus over making their CBR range more inviting to new riders.
I’ll wait for the steam sale on the car of the year edition. You’ll get everything for half the price of the original!
I’m still waiting to see what pre-order bonuses I can get. Really hoping they come out with an Elite Bundle with the bonus whale donger leather password.
Good points. It's not a perfect system (or car for that matter) yet, but the progress that has been made in the past five years is impressive. In five more...
I’m just excited about the Calgary Location since I go to Calgary often. Now I could easily go from Edmonton to Calgary and back.
A nearby powerline capable of handling the current is the key phrase. How many of them are ready to deal with charging thousands of EVs?
