Oh boy. I am of the "1980s-BMW-engineers-knew-best" ilk, but this is annoyingly perfect in every unexpected way. I don't care what he spent on it, its still Nice Price!

Volkswagen Futura. Parts of it previewed the Golf III, but mainly it was a bunch of high-tech automatization. Like a radio, that uses counter-frequency to render outside and engine sounds inaudible. Or like the self-parking four-wheel steering. And a huge glass-house, complete with gullwing doors, a musthave on

I would guess these are the engines seen in the mini, and numerous peugeots & citroens - BMW just made a huge step making the mini program even more profitable, something merc with the A & B classes is green with envy about. And these are excellent fourpots, so fair play to saab for picking them.

That little for a restored 164 V6 this nice? Whatever you say, that is as straight an NP as it comes.

@Vavon: That's even more surreal than i imagined it would be. Thanks for sharing, now i am dead sure the 505 V8 will be built - i just wish i could start today. Heartclick!

@RyGuy: " It's almost as though the chassis was tuned for low-traction hoonage. " Regarding the number of snowy months in Sweden, this just might turn out to be the case.

If there ain't any

@iggysZ1: Oh bugger of course it is, maybe this is a freudian misspell, due to the sexy lines of the 504 coupe, wich i also love, but in deed i meant the 505 berline.

Though i couldn't name a favourite, there is a distinct modell i long for at the moment: Peugeot 504 sedan. Let the pic above say the 1000 words I would need to explain.

That itself is a lovely write-up, looking forward to reading more. Though i am by no means on the forefront of the commentariat, still, welcome!

Hm. A 'murican COTY is rather pointless, if all but two of the cars listed are produced elsewhere. OK, so the European COTY has Japanese winners too, but still, this is overkill: with the exception of the Regal and the USn-only hyundai, this could be the European shortlist as well - so why have both?

@wætherman: I wouldn't cry foul, if they called that Speedster, and this Spyder. I'm not saying porsche lost the plot, they haven't. I would just like to point out, that they got tangled up in their own history here, and badly.

I have a photo somewhere me riding shotgun in this very Speedster. Don't tell me nothing about loading up a 911 fuly, and then calling it Speedster, while the original was in fact a stripped out version built to compete with the 'vette price-wise. I repeat, dear Porsche, stripped out

That 1.8 was a DOHC 20valve (5/cyl) affair, if i am not mistaken. Built in Hungary, one of the first engines from the factory now turning out all of VAGs petrol engines.

1. Acquire now worthless river estate

Oh My God. I never really was a show-of, but this thing just wants me to burble my way through town. The pipes are only open so you still hear the motor among all the jaws popping onto the concrete.

I have one objection... no that's not the word. One comment on this: this is much more like a rally super special, than gymkhana to me. Fitting too, as he switched to ford, much better known on rain-soaked forrest tracks than in japanese parking lots. But you know what? All along i was cluthing to the table-edge for

Yeah, but the German voiceover says that its a full-out private project, with no factory Lancia backup at all, and thus production of more than this one car is though possible, but unlikely.
