Not only was it a mediocre movie, I didnt see much promotion for it. I was looking for it, and almost forgot the movie was coming out when it did.

Marvel on the other hand push seriously hard.

I think the plan was that Luke used the force and he had a vison of sorts that he would be successful. So he knew no matter what happened it would turn out.
