It was weird, but to me it totally worked. She-Hulk was never an action show, and to see Jen take the reigns with her meta-commentary was perfect. When the scene pulled out to the Disney+ menu, I reached for my remote like wtf? Then I got the gag and just loved it.

Matt could jump into a California case as pro hac vice, lawyers do it all the time.

Was it just me or was this a very tonally different Matt than we saw back in Hells Kitchen? He’s quippy, flirtatious, and downright fun (sending She Hulk an appletini after you just beat her in court is ballsy) but honestly I loved him like this. No dour church scenes, no wrangling over his conscience, just living

I admit that it’s a “me problem,” but I was just looking for some guidance/help on understanding the grammar when it comes to gender. No need to get mean. I was honestly asking for some help to get it.

This episode was SO GOOD! Jacob Anderson does so much good work in it. He owns every scene. His performance as Grey Worm in GoT was kinda one-note but man does he act the shit out of everything in this pilot.

Can’t wait to check it out!  Also, you can stream the pilot for free on AMC’s website.

I loved Buffy because I was literally in the same year of high school she was and her demons were total metaphors for my demons. I whined about them just as much as she did.

TvD deserves to be right behind Buffy & Angel on this list. Rank #8 is blasphemy!

As much as I am typically a stickler about remaining at least vaguely faithful to source material, I had no problem with the birth of Mount Doom happening in the way it did. It ended a great episode on a dire note, with our heroes left questioning everything. Loved it!

Thank you, and I found your post really enlightening. I’m totally cool with learning the true gender expressions of those around me, regardless of the work.

Ok, first: Gabriel was a messenger angel, not a war angel. Still an archangel in their own right but never one sent to inflict violence.

This episode was just filler to me. I’m always happy to spend time in Numenor(!) and I actually wasn’t annoyed by the Harfoots today, but freaking get to it already. The Stranger is clearly some type of Maiar associated with air/cold and we all knew Halbrand would come around.

Matt Smith steals every scene he shows up in. As soon as the camera focused on his face in the Vale you just knew his poor wife was gonna die by the menace he exuded.

Hi Justin... I agree with most of your points, but I wanted to give my opinion on one thing:

I am so sick of the coverage of shitty horror movies on io9. How is that science fiction, fantasy, futurism, or even remotely in line with CJA & AN's vision?

Looks gorgeous, and damn that lady has wonderful voice!

Thanks for the review. I loved the first book and struggled with the second. Muir just seems like she can never quite decide what type of story she wants to tell. That was charming in the first book when it resulted in a lovely mashup of ideas and themes, but halfway through the second I was just bored. I’m not sure

I don’t think it was a plan so much as desperation and a bit of that good ol’ Targaryen madness. Daemon could have pulled something like this any time, but it wasn’t until his big brother was going to save him that he decided he would just rather go out in a blaze of glory rather than get bailed out.

I am loving it! Takes me back to the early aughts when I was experiencing Tolkien for the first time on film and then later in the books. I don’t mind that it’s a little slow, and the casting Elrond and Galadriel is just so good. Love the dwarf momma princess as well.

Yeah it’s the wrong Age for the Istari but I do think it’s another Maiar. Maybe Sauron, but I kinda hope not. The Maiar are so vague in the books it’s be fun to see the show flesh them out a little more. Pun intended.
