Yes because medical costs here are so high - high insurance premiums, high deductibles, and high post-insurance adjusted expenses. Even with a good salary, great insurance, and lots of savings, I am TERRIFIED of getting a serious illness or injury. And for those with shitty insurance? I cannot even begin to comprehend

The GOP runs attack ads on her for three reasons: 1) she’s a woman, so an easy target to them, 2) She’s from California, which all GOP voters assume to be some kind of modern day Sodom, 3) she’s an excellent corporate fundraiser, which scares the GOP, as their primary base are the Whale donations.

Mythics standards no one can achieve:

‘tis a bafflement. It’s never a simple tit-for-tat negotiation. The Republicans, at some point,  are gonna want something that costs money, which means they will have to make a deal with Democrats for it. We need to make sure that the price for these deals, especially since the Republicans have become so amazingly

Democrats can give Republicans nothing. They’ve done it before (Social Security Privatization) and were even able to get Republicans to expand medicare prescriptions when Dems were the minority party in 2003.

Legislation also has to go through the House. You want that legislation to include building a wall on the border with Mexico.

Thing 1: I urge all of you Indivisibles and individuals who have been showing up at your Congresscritters’ doors and demanding stuff for these last two years to do the same, at least for now, while the Democrats are finding their feet around dealing with having some power on Capitol Hill. I was very encouraged to

You Neville Chamberlain-ass motherfucker.

It’s almost as if challenging your leaders is... good. That can’t be right, it must be those fucking purity-test progressives. Everyone knows you should unquestioningly follow your status quo leaders.

This is good! This is what the Dems should be doing. If your leaders are useless, don’t vote for them to be your leaders anymore! The lack of any substantive progressive challenge to Pelosi’s re-election as speaker of the House is a continual frustration for everyone who wants to see Democrats actually get

Schumer / Cuomo 2020:

I really do think Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) is considering a run. He’s been steadily raising his profile this past year. He’s always said he’s not interested in the job, but admitted a few weeks ago he might run in 2020.

But we must turn out and protect the seats. It starts with that. Also, we need to identify the most vulnerable seats, House or Senate, and work on flipping them.

Sure they did. They learned a lot, but the most important thing they learned is that what they’re doing works, and will continue to do so, as long as they continue to be unburdened by ethics, morals, rules, respect, civility, compromise, or the law. Which should not be a problem for them.

Yes agree - I think impeachment itself would be pretty easy but removal basically impossible.

I think impeachment is still on the table, depending on the Mueller report, but conviction in the Senate is not. Either way, if the Democrats can find an attractive candidate in 2020 (PLEASE, no more members of the gerontocracy!), Trump will go down hard.

We’ll see about how they treat Trump now. Their best bet for the last two years was to do what they could with the power he had given them. That might be changing. I don’t think they’re brave, I just think they’re politicians.

Solidifying, and then re-solidifying, THE BASE, is all they have left. Everyone else has gotten spooked and fled, or was never a possibility in the first place. They cannot, and have not, broadened their demographics beyond the base. They can/will only elect people who fellate the base.

Remember in 2008 how the GOP (at least publicly) was like “Holy shit we fucked up”? Granted, that humility didn’t last long and they ended up trending in the wrong direction, but at least there was some introspection. Contrast to today where the gameplan is apparently to keep on keepin’ on.

Do we really want the GOP to learn anything? Given that they’re all Trump’s stooges at this point, they even lack the very modicum of self-reflection
