Guys do get that question, especially where the prevailing local “culture” likes to keep women barefoot and pregnant: “does your wife work?” It’s the same kind of probe into your disposable income. Sexist either way.

This is why I do NOT put my home location on my resume or cover letter, nor do I disclose it on job applications unless it’s an actual requirement. My commute is my business, and I’ll either deal with it or move closer at my discretion should I get hired.
Now several young brides from Kilkenny
So we’ll sleep like Hobbits. First sleep, second sleep, elevensies, lunch snooze, afternoon nap, supper siesta, dinner doze-off...
While slavery has indeed been around for centuries, i do think that the point can be made that Europe took slavery, expanded it to encompass most of the known world, and monetized the crap out of it
So she outright stole their money. Can’t even feel bad for the bridal shop.
I live in a large urban area where people commute a lot. A lot, many people. So much traffic. And yet, I’ve had numerous interviewers express to me that they were extremely concerned about the distance I lived and would only be interested if I moved closer. It was so exasperating.
Today we bring you an update to yesterday’s story about a Good Samaritan motorist who caught a speeding Dodge…
THIS x 1000!!! I have lived this and it’s not pleasant.
I bike to all my job interviews but I try to disguise the fact that I don’t have a car. Interviewers do hold it against me if they decide it will be an issue. Stupid.

There could be a number of reasons depending on the job. And I also live an hour away…
Bingo.
Yup, if anyone is THAT concerned about my drive into work I skip it. And it’s been a problem a few times.
I had a boss ask me a somewhat similar question once. I just lied.
TheFreeLance hit the nail on the head.
Perhaps a bad impression of the area you live in? When I lived in Slough (UK) that really wasn’t a good thing on my CV.
As a software developer: you just described every single job I’ve ever had.
Actually since you speak english and not “american”, you’re the one who doesn’t write it correctly. While acceptable, “to vandalize” is the american way of writing “to vandalise” which is the correct spelling.
