Love it! My one and only made-money-on-a-car story was a 1986 Lotus Esprit Turbo I picked up locally for $5k. I put about $800 and a lot of time into the mechanicals and ebay'd it for $8900. http://corner-carvers.com/forums/showthr…

It's going to be ugly. I know a "mass produced" 430 that had a light offset nose hit. Popped the airbags but anyone would call it a minor accident. Bumper, hood, driver fender. Didn't even damage the door. $72k and 6+ months to make it right.
"For the most part I say we get an avg of 40% or more views to an ad with a girl then w/o... some ads, depending on the car or girl 80% easily or more."
Making the most expensive version appeal more to your average buyer does not seem like such a poor strategy to me at all.
Wow, I can just hear him saying that.
My dad had an '86 Chrysler LeBaron GTS, purchased new. I recall it was the first year of the 2.5 with balance shafts. My friend's dad bought a new '86 Accord at the same time. NEW, those two car-obsessed-non-driving-teenagers thought they compared favorably. The 'baron aged poorly though. Our '84 Chevy Celebrity…
Funny, I was just thinking he wasn't over-the-top enough this time.
The market is saying that door pockets and all that other crap is just not that important. The pure design aesthetic interior was a stroke of genius, IMHO, even if was possibly driven by necessity. It reduced development and productions costs *and* time to market, gave Tesla another clear differentiator, and seems…
Tesla actually sold 22,450 cars last year and plans are for 35,000 in 2014. Since they sold 6,900 in the last quarter of '13, that does not seem unreasonable. Merc sold 13,300 S class cars last year.
Things look a lot different when you're the guy writing the checks. I caught a lot of sh*t from random people for not tracking my old 996 GT3 and they all had one thing in common: they weren't bringing *their* $80k (used!) toys to the track either. The guys who do track cars like that (expensive, powerful, heavy)…
oops. Sorry about that. B5, B6, it's only one different. :)
Sorry to disappoint, it's "Greenwood Green", though the seller claims it's extremely rare, just not particularly striking: (http://cnj.craigslist.org/cto/4414683435…)
Strangely, there are TWO 6MT B5 S4 Avants for sale within 20 minutes of me right now (green and grey ones). Fortunately for my wallet, I just recently bought a 6MT Volvo V70R which seems more DIY friendly. Which is good, since I have to replace every piece of rubber in the front of the car on my way to spending $15k…
I don't think anyone buys a $80-100k+ car to "save money" but where do you come up with 0.10/mi? I pay 0.18/kwh, which is high (national average is 0.12). At 35kwh/100mi (from the wall), a Tesla would cost 6 cents/mile for me (~60mpg equiv) and 4 cents for national average (~90mpg equiv). Not so bad for a fast,…
Ah, but what if Tesla can prove that some of those days out of service were the result of tampering with the car (the fuse issues)? Also, they claim that they were never able to duplicate the door handle issue. It will be interesting/amusing to watch this play out.
The Tesla owner had a Volt before and was one of those annoying guys who likes to be obnoxious on the forums just because he can. His signature even crowed about his multiple bannings. It sounds like he's quite a piece of work in real life too.
Hah. Way back in the day, mostly through dumb luck I trophied in my mom's 4 cylinder 1984 Chevy Celebrity. It ran high 19s IIRC. I think it really messed with people's heads that I'd be driving (oozing?) past the snack bar before they got a green. It was tough to adjust on the far end when the other lane has 30mph…
Not going to wade in but would like to point out the number is > 20,0000. They sold (that is: people took possession of) 5,500 cars in the last quarter. They're building 550+/wk.
I couldn't have been *that* hard to find a representative Merc convertible picture. The list says "60-70s" but the car pictured is an '86 or newer 560SL.
30 seconds on the same Tesla forum used to showcase all these complaints told me that VIN 4724 for user MTGMAN is in Georgia, on the way to him in SC. Quoting 250 is weaksauce.
