Seems like it would save a ton of money if we just did a little free riding on Europe’s standards. This brought up harmonization, and then goes ahead and specifically outlines detailed requirements that I’m sure will require differences between markets.

Being on the western slope, you’d be required to buy the Subaru SolTerra anyway.

Well, they are basically doing that.

I’d like them to do both. Release a 250 mile electric SUV, and hybrid everything else. Making everything hybrid ‘right now’ with a plug is better than keeping electric cars too expensive and a small % of fleet marketshare.

Why not both?

Based on what we’ve seen from journalists test driving actual trucks off road and the predominantly glowing reviews we’ve seen in return? I’m extremely confident Rivian will deliver on their promises - and if their existence is a kick in the ass to the legacy automakers and the ICE trucks now repurposed as EVs that

This is a reminder that even experienced, well-prepared people can still get in trouble in the outdoors. Nature is unforgiving.

So I take it you didn’t actually read the story?

It’s strange to me that we’re talking about Nissan here and the Leaf isn’t mentioned. That’s a car which has won numerous awards and was the best selling EV until finally being surpassed the Model 3 in 2019. Over 500,000 of the things have been sold worldwide.

Tires and light suspension upgrade or replacement.

Tires, tires, tires. Nothing transforms a car’s driving dynamics like tires. You don’t have to buy super expensive tires to improve ride, handling, noise, traction, etc.

I went from an ‘08 IS350 to an off-lease ‘07 LS460 years ago. Just as fast in a straight line, rolled in the corners but was otherwise like driving a fast comfortable couch.  I’ve since owned an ‘11 GS460, ‘15 GS350 and now ‘21 LC500 Convertible.  All bought for half price or less, except the LC.

Clean out the interior. I realize this probably isn’t in the spirit of the question but it really does make driving more enjoyable.

Meh. Surely this will print money in the Northeast and Northwest where hydro and wind can make driving about as zero emission as currently possible.

Some of them have adopted that roofline from the Chrysler thugwagons. They’re slowly turning the cargo area back into a trunk and the vehicles into misshapen sedans.

Surprisingly, a lot of the car buying public doesn’t care about acceleration. Sales of slowish accelerating crossover/suvs are great at the moment.

Subaru’s world-renowned “X-Mode””

The original game was actually pretty true to history, at least in its structure and tone. But it wasn’t meant as a power fantasy the way the modern games are.

Arrogant prat me once declared to a schoolmate in the 90s: “Once the WWII survivors die out, nobody will give a shit.”

Not to suggest that 90s kids gave a shit, but I’m well aware of the swing from caring to ambivalence to ignorance.

Why are we the wet bandits? Because we want to create a World where Everyone Tries!”
