I’m glad to see the IIHS take this step. Just as we were seeing with mileage figures (before the circus came to town), change and higher standards drives innovation. I’d throw the Mercedes G Wagon into the category of unnecessary cars in their product line.  Yes, they make several crossover and SUV models, but those all have very familiar body lines.  They look like a Mercedes.  They have no need to build the G Wagon, and their product lineup would be fine if they quit making it.

Be patient, and look around for used Grand Sports in a few years.  That’s really the sweet spot in the C7 lineup.  Love my Z06, but I haven’t “needed” all the horses more than a few times since I bought it.  Find a good deal on a Grand Sport with a stick and feel good knowing you’ve got one of the last true Corvettes.

I saw a similar video on here a couple months back with a similar premise. The G wagon vs the Rubicon vs a Land Cruiser in a series of trials. The Rubicon didn’t fare well in that comparison, where the G wagon rocked. To bad I’ll never be able to afford one.
