As a Virginia resident, I can attest that you’re understating the case. Kaine has anti-sex ed leanings, unless we’re talking “abstinence only”. He also signed into law a number of punitive and anti-medicine laws including mandatory pre-abortion ultrasounds and mandatory pre-abortion counseling. Oh, let’s not forget…
Kaine had an F rating on women’s issues as governor of Virginia. He was straight across the board terrible. I suspect he used his time in the Senate to repair his resume in preparation for this moment.
McAuliffe would pick a temporary replacement. The seat would be permanently filled in a special election in 2017 — always a toss-up in Virginia.
