No secret that budgets have tightened and layoffs have occurred at gawker. Shooting Challenges were on the list of expendables.

Technically, Google is saying starts on Nov 1, ends Nov 2. Wikipedia says Oct 31-nov 2nd. I understand there are different sub-celebrations each day, but the exactitude of this holiday vernacular seems tough to pin down!

You shouldn't be taking black and white photos. But if your frame is filled with white or black, that is fine.

I think it's fascinating because the framing is largely symmetrical, but much of the imbalance comes from lighting alone. That's a neat juxtaposition that could disqualify the shot. But as I mentioned in another comment, I'd like to push for inclusiveness when a shot is taken in the spirit of the challenge.

Possibly. But if you look at the image from the perspective of the kite, there's an argument to be made. I prefer to be inclusive in borderline cases like this one, where someone is trying to play with an idea.
