Just because it’s in the spec doesn’t mean TV companies will use it. They are probably doing it for monitor support since if you wanted high refresh rate monitors prior you had to use DisplayPort. Why would HDMI want to lose that business.
The reason I see this not happening or will fail is because most consumers of TV’s don’t care about this. They are fine with the fake 120hz feature there TV’s already have or they don’t even know it’s turned on.
