Other outlets are reporting the woman’s full name is Tami Barker, and that she is an ESL instructor at a local community college. Someone’s in the wrong line of work.

We have Trump because America has a bunch of racist assholes who are willing to screw themselves over economically just to fuck over people of color? Yeah, that sounds right.
Personally, I found that the gender as a plot device part was pretty much what would be expected of a straight teenage boy, so it wasn’t distracting, especially because nothing in the rest of the movie made me think that it was gratuitous rather than the character establishing himself in a situation.
Very insightful piece, the creators would be very flattered. My first outing to see it wasn’t impressed with the animation aspect, but there’s likely to be improvements. The nightmare-ish bits are very much in the past for me.
Perfect review!
I was really stealthily sucked into this as well - the first half of the film was light and funny enough to get me invested in what I assumed was going to be a quaint, cute, well executed teen romance but every time the stakes changed up my heart rate kept ratcheting until I was almost screaming at the…
I got a sense from what I watched that either a: they wrote it very thoughtlessly or b: Finn was not the actor they should have chosen (setting side the white guy thing).
Yeah, this is another area where the show didn’t go far enough to disentangle the root-idea of the story from the reality. Having this dimension of reality draped over the top of the Iron Fist story would have given it a much more believable grounding...and would have added substantially to the first half of the…
As a self-identified nerd, I have to disagree with this statement. The issue at hand here isn’t (just) that there are problematic nerds, it’s that there’s a vast community of untapped nerds (women, PoC, LGBTQ folks) that the industry isn’t making an active effort at reaching out to.
Honestly, I don’t particularly like her (I do however like her acting). There’s just something about her that rubs me the wrong way, and for awhile there she was really insufferable. She’s calmed down some since those days. But I’m still not going to apologize for not liking her because I’m allowed to not like her. …
I don’t know why try-hard became a thing.
Anne and Lea Michele come off as so EARNEST and for some reason that pisses people off. I’ll admit to rolling my eyes at both of them and thinking like “yeah okay, theatre camp”. I don’t know why try-hard became a thing. I don’t know why it’s bad to like yourself and think you’re good at things.
Run. fast.
Getting all blocked up with they don’t also sounds like the excuse men give women when they want to have sex and the woman is not interested in it. “It’s a medical necessity! Do you want me to die?”
I hate to plug anybody, but if you’re in the SF Bay Area, Sonic is staunchly opposed to all these shenanigans.
This. Exactly. It excludes women from advancing, being mentored, or having more connection with the people women work with if they are men.
I do it all the goddamned time. I have many more female friends then male friends and I’m about the safest guy on the planet to be alone with. My wife has no problem with it because she knows with complete security that I only have eyes for her, my gorgeous, green eyed, hot blooded goddess of a wife.
Too lazy to summarise so just RTFA.
Your metaphor isn’t quite right.
