I don't agree. I've checked Amtrak many times, and often it is the same as an airfare or one time in early December it was more. So I was expected to pay more and stay in route 5 times longer.
They want the first off plane seats for connections and business meetings in that city. Sometimes it can take 15-30 minutes to unload an entire plane. People in the back rows are screwed.
