I can understand a lot of the concern, given the deep (and well-earned) distrust of G/O by the readership. I don’t think it would have surprised anyone if Herb had directed the staff to let Fahey’s passing go without comment. A brief note from someone saying “it’s coming” would have silenced a lot of the consternation.
