Thanks for this. I’m not a GoT person, but a lot of people around me, including my wife, are. I am dreading this final season, and plan to resort to the “watch/listen to/read something else in another room” tactic.  That should get me through the actual viewings, but there’s always the next morning breakfast

[insert still frame from the Zapruder film here]

A while ago my wife and I needed a new mattress, so we decided to take the plunge and get a foam mattress. It was one of the best purchases we’ve made in many years. We both sleep very well on it, and as a bonus, it moves so little that if either one of us gets up the other literally doesn’t know it.

A brief anecdote about my favorite “kid joke.”

Yep.  In sports, business, or whatever field you want to bring up, the best competitors always have a petty streak.

Well, the NFL couldn’t find a way to go to 18-game seasons, so this is their plan B solution — make each game longer.

If by “smart enough” you mean “broken down enough”, then, yeah.

This site has always been my go-to place for Roman numeral humor.

The fundamental issue with everything Musk touches is that the hype from him plus his fanboys outstrips reality. Even Tesla is grossly oversold. Yes, Musk figured out very early that batteries were the key, and all indications are that Tesla is the low-cost producer of car-size packs. But the cars he’s putting them in

I hate how this sounds, but I feel obligated to say it: How did even horny old white men (my demo, to be sure) look at her and her age and not say, “I’ll sign whatever NDA you want, but until you give me some hard scientific and engineering basis for your claims, I’m not giving you one cent.”

I noticed that at one point in the docu they said that the SV guys were now venturing into more dangerous areas, like autonomous vehicles.  That’s terrifying.  The “fake it ‘til you make it, using someone else’s money” routine is fairly harmless when you’re trying to launch a new browser or search engine.  But

I am usually the first and loudest person in the room to scream for measured, reasonable justice, meted out only after due process, etc.

I am about as anti-smoking as people get. Watching your father die a horrible death from cancer when you’re 12 years old will do that to a person.

This incident is a perfect example of why I doubt I’ll ever go back to baseball. When I was growing up, my parents I were very devoted baseball fans. Watching games together on TV was a must, especially on weekends.

Speaking of class and dignity — my wife and I often visit wineries in the NY Finger Lakes, and nearly 100% of the time, if there’s some fucking loud and obnoxious moron in the tasting room he’s from western PA, and at least half the time he’s wearing a Steelers jersey.

So, the “how not to apologize” memo STILL hasn’t reached MN? Did it fall through the thin ice on one of their lakes...?

[slow, appreciative applause]

“No days off!

Speaking of oddities of the coverage — Buffalo-area talk radio (WGR) was going on about how Shefter reported that one of the people yet to be charged was “more famous than Kraft.” This is curious, to say the least. I think there’s zero chance someone in law enforcement leaked one or more names to Shefter and he then

Fuck you.
