It's worth noting the state of Grand Central at the time that Penn was pulled down. I remember going through GS in the 70s and 80s and it was NOTHING like today. This AP photo of Grand Central from 1968 give you an idea of why people thought stations were a lost cause.

LOVE the bad photoshop. The Heidi Klum doppelgänger is about four feet tall with a bicep coming out of her neck.

About the only app I need is one that tells me where I can get my hair cut and my dry cleaning done for the same price as a man.

The thing that has always bothered me about this movie is that Marty goes back in time and his mom falls in love with "Calvin." Yeah, she ends up with George but her son is destined to be a dead-ringer for Calvin. What I want to know is if George ever thinks he's been cuckolded.

The Puritans also didn't believe in church marriages, as it does not specify that the church has the right to marry in the Bible, and Puritans were usually married in civic ceremonies. They were expert brewers and alcoholic beverages were a part of their diet — even when fresh water was aplenty. And their coming to

Make sure to go the long way — around his lawn.

Damn, I'll have to go look that one up! Thanks.

I prefer my clever-pants as non-fiction, thanks. Fry, Bill Bailey, David Mitchell and Sandy Toksvig (okay ALL of QI), make my day. (Surprised Hugh Laurie never appeared on QI.)

Seconding the app. I have the printed book but the app rocks. You can search recipes by what you happen to have in the fridge — which is mostly how I find my self cooking.

Consumer Reports didn't try very hard with Trader Joe's. Most of the items they have marked as NA do exist in the TJ brand.

I'm waiting for a Victoria's Secret—Biggest Loser edition.

Adding greatly to the misery of the PA and surrounding area (of which my office overlooks) is that bus companies no longer need to rent berths, which cost upwards of $1mm each, in order to do business in the area. Discount bus lines challenged the city, and won, and the DOT can not bar them from making the sidewalks

I wouldn't be seen green
Ooo! Oo! Oo! Ah! Ah!
I wouldn't be caught dead
And if I'm caught at all
Then catch me in dead, red
Ooo!
You've got to be dead red
You've got to be real hot
So throw away those green gems
And wear rubies on your yacht

So, if a self-driving car hits something or somebody, who is at fault? The car owner? The software company? Anyone? No one?

Henry VIII is the bench ready to play!

I'll have to play around a bit in there (I have a data set ready for testing). I didn't see a way to ignore columns, so I guess you have to edit to exactly the set you need it before you bring it in. — which sounds like a lot of frustrating trial and error.

Last comment. I you want a copy of any of these photos, shop the NYC site first — they offer all kinds of prints for sale and the money will go to supporting the Archives.

Some of my edits did not get in. Here's the main link to the Archives website. The exhibit space has strange hours. The microfilm and library (which also contains a great clipping collection organized by neighborhood) has regular hours.

Currently doing a house history of my apartment building which turns 100 next year. I go to the archives a lot for my genealogical and history research and have dreams of helping them get the funding they need through kickstarter — but have no ida how government agency funding works. :(
