As a person who goes all out during Halloween, the first thing you learn is that crappy things sometimes make the best decorations. This is not meant to be a sole decoration sitting under a spot light. This is meant to be part of a scene in a lowly lit area surrounded by lots of other stuff.

It’s carp. Have you had carp? Lots of sharp loose bones embedded in the flesh, tastes of the sediment at the bottom the lake. It’s really perfectly fine to eat despite being kind of a pain - it’s a regular part of Chinese cooking. As long as it’s fresh, the flavor is just its flavor.

I know that by writing this I’m indelibly sealing my fate as “that guy”... but if your goldfish tend to die after only a few weeks, don’t get them. Goldfish can live for decades, it’s only the result of the (horrible) conditions that they’re typically kept in that label them a short-term pet.

About as edible as any other carp I imagine.

This being in Australia, I can only assume the fisherman was killed by this specimen almost immediately after the photo was taken...

Why aren't Slytherlins and Ravenclaws more buddy-buddy? I feel like a house of very ambitious people should get along very well with a house full of people committed to knowledge. Tangent: I follow an equal number of nerds and wonks on Twitter, and it’s sometimes surprisingly hard to figure out whether someone is using “DC” as shorthand for one of the two comic juggernauts or the federal government.
