Haha, yes. He made the choice to purchase tickets on the flying bus. (And speaking of, couldn't he have purchased the "A" boarding for the kids?)

Haha. My husband and I don't even have kids yet, and have been asked what our future not-yet-existent kids will do if they encounter this situation. I've responded that if the most serious issue that any kids of mine encounter is what to do about their last names when they marry, I will consider all of us truly…
Yeah, Franken is a great politician, and a downright good person too. Bachmann just represents one district, and she's not running again :) They do still have John Kline though (my home district, ugh!) - he's one of the four finalists in Bill Maher's flip a district actually.
I think the talking point about MN vs. WI…
Well *I* am not a recipient of "charity," and I never have been. National defense costs are not beyond reproach and immune from criticism simply because they are part of the federal government's duties. I want to be sure that the massive amounts of money I pay every year aren't being spent frivolously or getting…
Not sure if you've seen it, but the Minnesota Democrats are using Walker and that downward spiral as a talking point to support re-electing Governor Dayton this fall. The comparison between what used to be quite similar states is staggering.
In my experience, people who say they pay their "fair share" of taxes, yet want to nitpick about who is poor enough to qualify for assistance to pay for FOOD, do not actually pay very much in taxes. All-in for SNAP, unemployment, and welfare combined, it's about $66.00 a year for someone making $50K.
I didn't have bridesmaids! Reason was a little different, though - we got married on Maui and I didn't want anyone to feel obligated to attend (or to pay for specific wardrobe), and I didn't want to have to make choices among my friends. So we just had our brothers (my one, his two) be "men of honor" in matching…
I can't imagine running with a lot of extra fabric, either, but far be it from me to dis someone who does. Besides they make the organized "races" a lot more entertaining.
Agree with most of the above. A few things that I'd add:
There were a few women associates at my "BigLaw" firm (L.A. office) who dressed inappropriately. One was risque (e.g. tight light-colored sweater dress with thong underwear - I only knew about this because a couple of male partners snickered behind her back, in front of me), the other was overly "trendy." Both of…
But for the modern miracle of Facebook, I don't think I would still be talking to more than half a dozen people from high school, max :)
Huh. Yeah, no clue. I know it's not really PC but it could also be a class thing as well. Most of my friends here I met in law school (or through them) and otherwise in a professional context, those I knew back in the day run the gamut.
Maybe. Not sure where you're located, but my friends with kids in Los Angeles (where I've been since my early 20s) generally look younger than my friends of the same age with kids in the midwest (where I'm from). All of this is of course anecdotal so I'm not meaning to say that I've found any sort of absolute truth,…
Oh, totally. Every woman's body responds to (and recovers from) pregnancy differently. Lifestyle choices can make a difference sometimes, but there are some things you just can't change.
A friend of mine has a theory on this - the girls / guys who were naturally good looking never really had to make an effort to look good when they were young, so bad habits as teenagers (tanning, drinking too much, eating too much) really caught up to them. Might be some truth to that although doubt it's universally…
Uh... who says it's a "competition?" Just relaying my observation. Read into it whatever you'd like, I suppose.
Not everyone... the "hot" girls from my high school, with very few exceptions, have aged pretty badly. The guys are even worse!
Interesting. I bristle at the statement "marrying down" and all of the judgment that comes with that, but this situation describes my marriage. Me: grew up upper-middle class, undergrad from a private liberal arts school, law degree from a top 20 school, currently a BigLaw (TM) partner. Him: grew up working class,…
My husband and I met at our 10 year high school reunion. We didn't know each other back then; he was there for just two years from Southern California, and it was a big school. We were both living in L.A. and had flown in for the reunion, and he was talking with one of my friends when I walked up.
Yep. Actually the male/female ratio has been close to even for many years, but still very little movement in promotion to partnership. Even worse at the firm management level. We have a partner's committee of 8; one is a woman. So I guess we're winning the war since we have one woman on the committee? Only from a…
