There is a difference between writing off your mortgage interest and the sales tax Trump may not have had to pay. One is using a tax “loophole” and the other isn’t a loophole because NY legislature decided to cut out the tax law that Trump’s loophole was in entirely.

I’m sure Trump’s financial team fully anticipated paying all of the taxes due for that particular aircraft. But they weren’t about to right one big check if they didn’t have to.
