Yeah — anyone trying to argue Last Jedi wasn’t wildly profitable is clearly nuts, but the fact that it’s only going to end up pulling in about 80 million more than Rogue One stateside seems to indicate it didn’t resonate the same way as the last two.

You know he’s just producing these now, right? Anyway 10 Cloverfield Lane was pretty great and pulling into the franchise got it in front of way more eyes than otherwise. Looking forward to this next one.

I’m not sure where you live, but Republicans control the government and are working on tearing down moderate reforms from the Obama years like Frank-Dodd and the CFPB.

I agree that Lucasfilm probably should have figured out the general shape of the trilogy more than they have, but it seems weird to pin that responsibility of figuring out everything on Abrams (and Kasdan). They were hired to write a single two-hour movie that had to both act as a sequel to ROTJ and pass the torch to

Agreed... there were some really great moments but I have a hard time understanding the argument that this movie will age like Empire when the big picture involved an oddly uninteresting chase framing (plus that casino diversion) that just didn’t have the drive or pacing I’d expect from a good Star War.

No one is saying this.

I tend to agree with this. For a couple of weeks TLJ was running even with Rogue One daily, and now it’s dropped below it, which is kind of nuts.

Never actually picked it up, but I think it was distributed as part of/with the print copies of the Onion.

The dumb internet hill I choose to die on is arguing that Abrams and Kasdan didn’t even set up Snoke or Rey’s family as big mysteries — they were there to explore if the next guy wanted to, and he obviously had mixed feelings about what was and wasn’t worth pursuing.

Ahh, you’re probably right — I didn’t read it that way.

Of course it related to the movie’s themes — it was still a slog, though!

+1... it was disappointing to see him kick the bucket after encountering Kylo near the end of the film, just like Han in the TFA.

I think it was facing out into space when it jumped.

“Most of the plot revolves around Resistance ships struggling to stay ahead of the First Order as they slowly run out of fuel, leaving a lot of the characters too busy to enjoy little diversions like a feast with the Ewoks or a weird musical performance at Jabba’s palace like in the old movies.”

Valid.

Yeah, this is a weirdly common misconception. I live in DC (and imagine a lot of other coastal cities are similar). A fair amount of highrises have gone up over the past 10 years here, but we’ve still only added enough units to absorb a fraction of the increase in population over the same amount of time.

It’s quite a scene, but it really does come off as highly choreographed gymnastics.

I kind of felt like the projection was allllmost “subversion of expectations” a lot of people had been praising the movie for, which I didn’t really see... but then of course Luke kicked the bucket in a hugely predictable moment.

Wait they’re not reviewing the Magicians this year? So many puff articles with the actors though, I thought we’d still be getting reviews!

Nah, nothing like that, he’s doing the theme for Solo then expected back for 9. It’s amazing he’s still going strong.
