Awesome, thanks. Will give these a watch and see what I can figure out.

Funny you mention that...that is an altogether separate problem that I'd been having and the reason I took it to the mechanic to have the timing reset in the first place. It does exactly what you described but only in the window from like 45-60 mph and not on acceleration. Interesting to note....If I can manage to Read more

Well, at the risk of sounding like a complete idiot, the cap and rotor had been changed twice in the last 20k miles or so, including the last 6 months as described in the original post. That clearly hadn't worked and the plugs and wires had also been changed in the last 20k when I had the head gasket done, so in the Read more

Ok, so I screwed up and got the wrong gauge...what can I say, I am pretty new to this stuff. I don't necessarily need to test the compression as be able to see when it's going from upstroke/downstroke. So what do I need to gauge that? Read more

Hmmm...I am tempted to go to this as it's a short bike ride away, but feel strange considering I don't have tickets to the race, have never been in the past, and have never been to a meetup before. On the one hand: I like cars, fellow Jalops like cars. On the other hand: hanging out in a bar full of complete strangers Read more

I realize I am chiming in a couple of days late but....The co-op brewery idea is a good one and in fact is already in operation here in Austin—at Black Star Co-op. They had kegger fuundraisers in grassy fields for years while they figured it all out and at some point it started to seem like something that would never Read more

To piggyback on Laird Andy McBratlie's comment, have a proper margarita for us opponauts stuck in Mexico del Norte. I always thought my father in law was crazy when he would try to explain to me how different and how much better the margaritas were in Mexico than in Austin in or even San Antonio. I had no idea; I Read more

That is a very good point to make, and one I hadn't really thought about before even though it's as plain as day now. I should have made the connection with what I tell my kids about fire and tornado drills helping you be prepared for it just in case. I should go to the range more, but I am surprised at how expensive Read more

Sorry, late to the party, but...I second MountainCommand's question: how do you like that Sig? Bought a Glock 17 some years back because it was what I could afford at the time, but what I really wanted was the Sig. Wish I had waited to get that one, and sometimes consider dumping the Glock and going Swiss instead. Read more

Oh wow, totally saw this guy twice in the last week and wondered just what in the hell is going on here. Seems like I wasn't the only one.

Ahhh....South Texas. Heading there Friday afternoon to visit the in-laws. After seeing this, I am even more looking forward to Mexican food and margaritas this weekend. Still can't understand why more people from Central Texas have no idea the Valley even exists—I have the best damn time visiting.

Agreed. I will never understand how this term made it into the common vernacular. Where I grew up, if you called someone "white trash," you were basically picking a fight. I still find it plenty offensive, though I wouldn't consider it on par with those "other" ethnic racial slurs. That's probably because I usually Read more

One last question if I can ask for another minute of your time...do you know if would it be as simple as 4l60e out, t-5 in, or would there be modifications or other changes necessary? At quick glance it looks like a t-5 is relatively cheap to pick up and I am certainly open to the idea of abandoning the 4l60e. Thanks Read more

Thanks for the ideas—appreciate it. I'll update if/when I can figure this thing out or afford a mechanic, whichever comes first.

Really? Damn. That seems like low miles for something that bad to happen. I wonder if I should rebuild or just pull a used one from a yard or something. There are about 10 million of these things out there it seems.
