I'm also British and grew up with the same 4 TV channels you did. I was 8 when it happened and I remember it happening but it made no lasting impression on me and I didn't recognise the image. Events have different impacts on different people even within the same generation.

I came here to say the same thing but you said it much better! I may have started shaving my legs because "Ewww, gross" but I do it now - even in winter when nobody will ever see them - because I love that just shaved feeling. Especially as said above when you get into a freshly made bed or swishy PJs or something.

As someone from Yorkshire I hate the popularity of random "innits" at the end of a sentence as we've always used it as a contraction of "isn't it". So now I feel self conscious when I say something like "Cold out today innit?"!

It's not considered rude and an awful lot of people do it, but it is considered slightly dull. As in you should be able to find something more interesting to talk about than work!

I read a book on ageing (the year I turned 30!) and according to that you're right. As I remember it, how well your brain ages depends on the number of active neural pathways you have. As you age you tend to have less active pathways leading to dementia etc, but learning something new opens new pathways. I don't know…
