The cheat didn't bug me (he was unconscious, blood loss, it made sense that we didn't see the jump). What bugged me was the reveal. It just wasn't smooth or well-done at all. Then there was some bad CGI and the whole scene just didn't work for me.

They play an alternate-reality version of themselves, where they have the same names and have their own soundtrack (Ninja listens to his song "Enter the Ninja" in the movie), yet they seem to be drug dealers as well. I don't know if they're drug dealers in the real world. If they are, then they play themselves

It's a really funny film. The trailers for this movie have been awful, probably because they're trying to sell this as a "blockbuster." It's not a blockbuster, it's a silly sci-fi comedy with a smattering of superficial social commentary.

That's exactly how I feel about the movie—I liked it and would watch it again: B+. I would tell my friends it was a B, though, because few people like funny sci-fis, particularly the baroque-excess comedy that Die Antwoord brings to this film.

This movie isn't set in the future. South African slums are really fucking dirty. Have you ever been to a slum? Or, I dunno, seen one on TV?

The film is much better than the reviewer would have you believe. I, too, loathed Elysium. Chappie contains a lot of charming aspects that were missing in the dull, lifeless Elysium. I don't know if you'll like Chappie (I seem to be in the minority of people who liked it), but it's definitely less dreary than the

I agree that Ninja did not do a good job (though I liked the idea behind his character—it felt real to me to have a dad who is an asshole, perhaps?). However, I liked Yo-Landi. I think you're misusing the phrase MPDG here—an MPDG has no internal world of her own, whereas the character clearly did. She loves

The AV Club inflated Upstream Color because Primer was so awesome and they probably wanted to remind everyone that they KNOW that Primer is awesome. Upstream Color was, as you say, a dreadful drag.

I loved that Blomkamp took his skill for "cosmetic" effects (as the reviewer above noted), and merged them with Die Antwoord's eye for stunning visuals and sets. It made for a totally different "look" from a movie that I've rarely seen before—almost like a colorful Mad Max.

I'm part of his fanbase (long-time lover of creative and thought-provoking sci-fi). I LOVED this movie. I found it visually appealing, it was loads of fun, and it made me contemplate existence far more than did the hamfisted District 9. I'm fairly certain Blomkamp was trying to appeal more to South Africans, after

They're not really kids—she's 30 and he's 40. I think at this point we can agree that any fashion choices they've made are a carefully considered choice, whether or not you appreciate that choice.

I think you've 100% missed the point of Die Antwoord, and then somehow confused them with the Beastie Boys.

He could have sent her to farm with Lagertha. I agree Bjorn would have had a difficult time trying to make her, though. Ragnar doesn't seem to recall that Viking women do what they want (even though he has plenty of evidence demonstrating this).

It didn't surprise me that Aslaug was invested in the story—back then, people told and retold the same stories because they couldn't read/write. She seemed more interested in the manner of telling than in the (rather lame) story itself.

I don't think she's lying at all. I believe she was abused by her uncle and older brother. That doesn't mean that she doesn't have an inappropriate relationship with her younger brother (if she was abused as a kid by family members, it could cause her to have the same urges for younger family).

I don't think Athelstan knows himself, so that's not really surprising.

But we also know that Egbert was good at dealing with the Vikings, and that not all the Vikings were acting together (other groups are probably out raiding Ireland right now or something). It's believable to me that the Vikings were hired as mercenaries to help Egbert take control of Mercia—we know Egbert takes

They shot it to make it look like he died! This show is good with the fake-outs. I'm glad he died gloriously.

Remember how Gillian Anderson looked frumpy in the first seasons of the X-Files, mainly because of those horrid women's business suits from the 90s? Yeesh.

Justified brings far more emotional depth than GoT. I sometimes think the reason people underestimate Justified is because of the accents. I can't think of another show that as accurately portrays small-town life (Parks & Rec tried for a while, but gave up pretty quickly).
