In the movies, it is just pure vibranium, meant to absorb any impact. I saw that as the explanation for the huge explosion that left Cap unharmed when Thor hit him in the forest. The shield absorbed and reflected all of the impact from Thor's hammer.

From what I saw at my theater, the lines for the 2D digital DID sell out, but so did a lot of the 3D showings. What really went fast was the IMAX.
I fell out of the boat with Supernatural somewhere along the first half of this season. Did they finally find a MacGuffin to take care of the Mouth-Face monsters? Good. Because those things were incredibly boring. Bring back the demons.
He is also getting older playing a character that is not supposed to age.
I'm in Chicago so my experience may be different, but my theater showed an equal number of digital and 3D screening all at similar times, so I chose to go 2D digital.
