I'm with you. In a few years it could be a cool progression for the character but I don't think we know him well enough in the movies yet.

I think the problem is actually that a romance storyline is a quick and easy humanising b-plot for a character in otherwise unrelatable circumstances. The viewers don't know what its like to have superpowers but they do know what it is like to want a girlfriend (or boyfriend!)

I can't decide how I would feel about a Cas spin-off. Most of the joy of Castiel is seeing him interact with the Winchesters and an entire series of "Cas gets into another scrape. Will he EVER learn to be a real boy?" Could get tiresome. I just don't know that the character could carry a whole show.

I would guess that most demons are created in hell after the death of their human body. How this will make any difference to anything though remains to be seen. Maybe he can't leave his body and possess others?
