No you are not.
You subsidize yourself. Your future self.
Statistically, over the course of your life, you too will face medical challenges, of a high cost. The certainty is 100%, either a big disease, or you are very healthy, and will live longer, at that very old age, you will then require a lot of health care.
so you

As a Canadian (our healthcare is far from free, we’re just all subsidizing it), I think you’re an idiot.

Libertarians are all about freedom. The freedom to let others die.

It doesn’t even have to be cancer. I was largely healthy, contracted a serious infection, and racked up $250k in ICU bills. It could happen to anyone.

Insurance is a product, not a right.

I take it you’ve never heard the phrase “temporarily able bodied”?

Let’s hope you don’t get hit by a car.

I think that you should be able to live your life without worrying about if getting sick will destroy everything. I don’t think anybody should have to decide if they have to live on rice/ramen for a month so they can pay their medication bill or eat decently but end up sicker/die/cause another issue.

Um, I’ve lived in Europe. The universal health care is awesome. When I was sick I was seen very quickly (and completely for free!) and was able to pick up my medicine right away, also for free. You pay slightly higher taxes for this, but it’s more than worth the peace of mind.

See cancer doesn’t just affect the poor. ANYBODY can get cancer. There are certain risk factors that can elevate the chance yes, but sometimes life’s a bitch and you end up with cancer. Unless you are a multi-MILLIONAIRE you won’t be able to take ‘personal responsibility’ for your cancer treatments and you can’t plan

This article is not talking solely about charging sick people more, though. We’re talking about not allowing them to get coverage at all, even if they are willing to pay more.

Right? It’s called the social contract. I don’t have kids, but I still pay for schools. I don’t drive, and I still pay for roads. Being a part of society isn’t a buffet; you don’t get to pick and choose what you think is worthy.
