I am so sorry for your loss. Thank you for sharing this, though. I wrote this essay because I wanted to share what I was going through, but also because I wanted to shorten the distance between us all, between everyone who has been ripped apart by illness. I don’t know you, but my heart is with you.

Counterpoint: Mary Karr. Liar’s Club and Cherry are two of my all-time favorite books. Also, all of Roald Dahl’s memoirs are strange and lovely and funny and wonderful. Truly great nonfiction. Read more

Oh MAN! That sounds terrifying. But also, as someone who has been sick on public transportation many a time (sorry, entire city of Philadelphia) I have to say this: nothing is ever quite as bad as it is in your head. Even the worst, most embarrassing moments. And the Netherlands sounds like such an amazing adventure! Read more

Oh no! I never traveled as a kid either, so traveling feels like the ultimate luxury to me. That was a big part of my guilt/sorrow—feeling like I shouldn’t have spent that money on Iceland in the first place. That’s the worst, isn’t it? Feeling guilty about a purchase AND not being able to enjoy it! I really hope you Read more

I desperately wanted to, but... well. Next time, I plan to eat every oddity I can find from fermented fish to puffins (though they are so cute)

Peter Dinklige is a sweetheart who rides a skateboard everywhere. I was working at a theater festival and he was in a production of Uncle Vanya (this was post-Narnia, pre-Game of Thrones) that his wife directed (she was also a sweetheart, and super smart to boot). I was in college and completely star struck by him, Read more

Move to Portland! I did and I love it. It’s walkable, cute, interesting, tons of good restaurants, cheap beer, etc etc. It’s not that hipster, promise. It simply doesn’t have the money to be that hipster. Maine is the 49th best state to do business in, according to Forbes (i.e. it’s the worst!). I still manage to live Read more

I live in Portland and it’s not little Williamsburg at all. That’s a silly thing that people say. Also, John Golden is well-known for his cantankerous nature, which is a persona he definitely indulges in.

Okay, but hear me out: that bronze is literally perfection AND Rachel Comey shoes are comfy as fuck. Yes, they're super expensive, but they do last for a long, long time. Which isn't something I can say about my adorable lace-up high-heeled black oxford booties that are the perfect combo of witchy and military and Read more

Want to try out the mani cam?
I would, but I'm trying to keep my fingerprints to myself for now. Just until the whole Craigslist Couture thing blows over.

I would love to! Is "mani" short for maniacal? That's so clever!

I would, but only as long as my date gets a chance to do it, too. Come here, Franco! Oh yes, I did Read more

I want a t-shirt that says Elisabeth Moss is the FUCKING BOSS. Because after this and Top of the Lake, girl can do no wrong.

Have you ever made video tutorials? You should! Those are so helpful (though it would be even better if someone could actually look at me and be like, no girl, not that shade!)

What about using superglue to seal up cuts? I don't have health insurance right now, so my cooking-knife-inflicted cuts are all being stitched together with superglue. I hesitate to ask (because I MIGHT JUST DO IT ANYWAY) but is this a bad idea that will result in my immediate death? Please advise.
