You can set it up so you can toggle the changes on and off by accessing the “long press” menu. So, I can set up a custom scheme, and when I don’t want that scheme I long press the PS button to access the menu and un-check a box at the bottom to “disable” the scheme, and re-check it when I want to use it again.

I think this would be an interesting concept to pursue. Part of the reason why consoles are so appealing is that they just work, building a PC requires a bit of dedication and effort; however, if we went to a plug-and-play style interface, that's no longer an obstacle.

The Swapper has PS-button prompts (you can choose wich prompts you prefer) as well, but those are the only two games I know of right now.

Sure, no problem! I own a Vita also and the remote play functionality on it was mostly a letdown. If you spot a Shield portable for cheap it's definitely worth it. I was lucky and snagged a new one for $139.
