She’s actually a pretty good actor considering her main thing is comedy (her standup special was excellent).

It felt pretty revolutionary to me to have a movie that focused on the mother-daughter relationship (and specifically in an adventurous way) instead of the mother just being dead.

You’re assuming there will be a future time when he’s not president.

I guess that’s what “great again” would look like, probably.

Fake news!

I remember thinking Mike Meyers was taking it a little too seriously.

All of these are real songs.  What’s a “fake song”?

Looks like they’re doing a TV thing (miniseries?) with Kate McKinnon.

I can’t wait.  I did want them to look scruffier in middle age, but maybe this scene is from the end of the movie?

I don’t think they needed to make the adults more antagonistic than they were in the book. It always irritates me when kid entertainment does that—it’s cheap, and harmful.

I read both to my son, in order, and he surprised me by stating a preference for the Hobbit, not on the basis of the tone, but because it was more morally nuanced (he phrased that differently, obviously). E.g. Thorin wasn’t a bad guy, but he made bad choices out of treasure-lust, and Bilbo had to trick him to stop the

It’s a Bojack reference.

“Like Porky’s except even dumber” = cheap to make, and guaranteed profitable.
