Hmm, maybe the folks at Toyota equate the “non-click” blinkers with luxury because that’s how the Germans do it?

Yeah, hard to explain the ass-hattery from the other brands as a technical issue. Not surprised the modern BMWs are the same way, they do share some things with their little brother MINIs, the only BMW I have to compare to is my ‘95 530i, which has nice a nice traditional blinker stalk. When I bought the car last year…
Yeah, can’t blame you there. She loves it because it’s “quirky.” I get frustrated by it. Hate is too strong of a word, but I definitely would not daily drive that thing. It’s fun in the twisties, too annoying the rest of the time.
If that’s the case, then I am a complete idiot. I’ll have to give it a shot.
The ones on my 2009 GTI were great, very intuitive. Just a slight push on the stalk got 3 blinks, push until click for the “normal” blinker.
Haha, I love lighting up the TCS on my E34. Makes me remember how nice it is to have. You can always turn it off anyway, at least in older cars. In my truck, however, the posi is the only form of traction control I have. Doesn’t stop the truck from getting sideways around a turn when I use too much right foot steering…
Ahh ok for some reason I assumed you meant “almost bought one new.” Yeah definitely could have been an SS clone, or just a trans swapped genuine SS. Wouldn’t be hard, just need a 4 speed from one of the 3500’s of the same era (pretty sure the gas motor in those was the 454).
Ahh yeah wouldn’t take much to throw a manual trans under there, I’m sure there were plenty of 4 speeds left over from that era 3500 trucks.
Nothing wild with it, here’s a picture showing it on the 4th gen SS wheels I picked up from a buddy of mine. (Dodge town panel in the background is my dad’s) Has a 327 in it currently with the stock Super T-10 4 speed. Open rear unfortunately, rear is next on the upgrade list. Subframe connectors, slapper bars and…
Man I love those trucks so much. I wanted one really bad when I bought my first vehicle, but couldn’t afford it, so I bought the baby brother. 1997 Chevy S10 SS. Just enough power from the “high output” V-6 to have fun, especially with approx -100lbs of weight over the rear tires. RIP, mine went from clean to beat up…
I thought the 454 SS was automatic only?
I love myself some 3rd gen Camaros. Prefer them to the Trans Ams of the same era, but only marginally. Although my personal soft spot is for the late 2nd gen Z28, hence why I own a 1980.
Siemens does a ton of other stuff besides automation/controls. I’m amazed at how wide spread that company is. Electric motors, Gas/Steam turbines, Fire Alarm Systems, Water Treatment (recently sold in the US to Evoqua), Gearboxes, Couplings, Compressors, etc. Reminds me of GE.
I had a bearing sales rep in at my job recently that said they were probably going to stop selling FAG bearings because they sell so poorly here in the US compared to Timken/SKF/INA. Theory being of course it is just because of the name.
That, my friend, is an excellent idea.
CP. I like how clean the car is, the diesel/manual trans combo, and the wagon. But 0-60 in 19+ seconds is living in the danger zone for me. Daily highway commuting in NJ makes this thing seem outright dangerous. Not that someone would hit me while I try to crawl up to full speed, more likely they’ll run me off the…
I haven’t seen it yet, but it will likely be coming soon.
I recently broke my Great Neck Quick Release C-Clamp. That little orange bastard broke, and now it’s sitting in my scrap pile, since that’s all that keeps the screw from sliding backwards. It was nice while it lasted, but that convenient quick release is a serious weak spot.
Yeah, that’s what I’ve heard from a few years back. Could have changed by now, but a buddy of mine went, tipped the car hop, and she thanked him over and over again, saying how rare it was that she was getting tipped.
Yup, definitely a holdover from drive-ins. My grandfather left home and moved to NJ from NC when he was 16, got his first job as a car hop for a White Castle, which was a drive in back then. So I’ve heard many a drive-in story in my time.
