Dave also lobbied to get Norm the 12:30 slot, but was overruled by CBS in favor of either Kilborn or Ferguson. I forget which time that was. Might have even been both times.
I thought he was great. I think Hollywood was uncomfortable with the fact that Dave was laughing at them, and not with them. Fuck 'em.
Having been too young for NBC Dave, the first few years of CBS Dave was just as revolutionary to me. Him having most likely defined the apathetic smartassery of the 90's before the decade even started, he was still doing it better than everybody for a lot of it too.
