I would love CA to have a proper inspection. The number of cars I see with multiple lights out, bald tires and a windshield held together with tape is astonishing.

Just like our road maintenance taxes and the lotto tickets that were supposed to fund our education system.
It was done to satisfy Huffines who wanted it eliminated so his family could save $7.50 per car they sold at their mega dealership.
“So, prior to this new law, for $7.50 you could have a mechanic tell you if there was something unsafe on your car.”
Up until now, Florida always had the edge. Lately though.
Well heck Billy-Bob looks like I don’t have to replace the brakes and tires and tie rods on my old truck, I can spend the money I was going to waste on that to buy me some Bud Light, waddya mean I can’t drink that no more ? transwhattas ? no the tranny in my truck is fine
Becoming?
So Texans will be paying to receive... nothing?
This was more as a concession to the removal of paper tags, which have been a massive black market in Texas leading to insurance fraud and all sorts.
Texas is really coming for Florida’s crown of home of the crazy. Someone needs to update the Bugs Bunny gif for this. Seriously, why did we ever fight to keep these wackadoo states?
GM employees in Texas receive company vehicles with only a rear plate. I've never been stopped for not having a front plate.
Yes. Reducing regulations! Eliminating the red tape...except when it comes to voting.
I assume it depends on circumstances. I knew of guys getting pulled over for no tag, but when there was no fine attached, who cares? It’s probably not enforced any more regularly, but now you can be charged for it. I’m of the “why give them an excuse" philosophy personally (not that they really need one).
It is, sometimes, many people would put them in their front window, though technically I don’t think that’s legal. As far as expired registration in Texas they usually give you a 7 day grace period. And when you get it renewed, bring that info when you go to pay the ticket and it’s almost always dismissed.

Is the front license plate thing ever enforced? I haven’t had a front plate on my daily drivers for at least 10 years (don’t remember on the car I got rid of in ‘13) and have never been cited. I had 2 or 3 tickets in that time and it was never mentioned. I can tell you for sure that they’ll add on expired registration…
It’s interesting that they did this, yet also upheld the front license plate law (and attached fines). I guess the common factor is they both involve getting money directly to the state.
What a shithole state
Of course he did. These days if a bill comes up that is stupid, racist, meaningless or otherwise the wrong thing to do and the state is controlled by the GOP then its an absolute automatic and reliable outcome that such bills will be signed into law. Yeah- let’s get rid of vehicle inspections so that clapped-out…
