I know it’s sacrilege but I always cut my burgers in half because 1) as much as I love food, I kind of eat like a gerbil, and 2) I’m always paranoid that my burger will be hockey-puck well-done instead of a lovely medium rare.

Yea, I agree as well. Kinda takes you out of the realism. Most people in real life don’t comment on every thing they pick up or look at, especially if they’re alone. I say mute the narration, add subtitles if you really need commentary from the character, and maybe leave some heavy breathing now and then, a la Amnesia.
