You nailed it. Locking diffs aren't very good in icy conditions, but LSDs can be fantastic. A pure 50/50 torque split is key as well.

How I drive on snow and ice:
-FWD
-Studded winter tires
-No traction control
-No ABS
-All throttle

not really. The ideal system is symmetrical system that is 50/50 static F/R split with 3 torque sending LSD's that have moderate Torque Bias Ratios, winter tires and good anti-slip logic.

Depends on the system. It's a bit of a catch all name... In an ideal snow world you'd have a rear-biased AWD system that could engage each front wheel individually when the rear breaks traction. And locking diffs. And proper tires.

Likewise. I have a ridgeback mix too, but let's just say he's independent enough that he'd happily take off for a few miles before realizing that he'd gotten himself completely lost.

ok fine ill buy it

Not impressed.

I did this exact same thing the first time I tried to launch the Hellcat on a drag strip. I think a few things are going on here:

THREE ARTICLES IN THREE DAYS IS THIS REAL LIFE

Would you be ok facing the other way?

The 30mm would cut through that beast like a knife through butter. Especially the underside of the dragon.

Keep the dog stories coming. There's nothing better than a great dog. I had to put down my field partner (American pit/rhodeasian Ridgeback) of 14 years down last year. Her first two years were working with me in the front slope of the San Bernardino's (a truely grueling area people rarely go into; no trails, poison

You and Matt should post more here on Indefinitely Wild. It was quite interesting to read these trips reports from multiple perspectives!

Eh, the dogs are always going to be a part of the equation unless we're doing something they absolutely can't, like taking an airplane somewhere. They're a much a part of the team as anyone is and no more of a liability. There were five of us on this trip, not three guys and two dogs.

I really appreciate this account and the bonus "what we can learn" section. I was a little disheartened at the comments in the previous article that seemed to revolve around a lot of "sounds like you had a fun adventure" perspectives. I think this followup really illustrates how dangerous this was.

We need three Subarus, side by side, on:
• summer tires
• all-season tires
• winter tires

The ram diesel is what I would buy currently... But! No matter who knows this info they will still blindly go buy an f150. Because..... F150

You mean all I have to spend is about $50 extra per month and I don't have to drive a GM product? I'm in.

Yes, I agree that the Chevy is a cheap truck.
