Has anyone read the first versions of the books, before they were revised in the 1950s? I have heard they were quite racist, but I grew up reading the revised versions from the 60s and 70s (which may have been quite racist, too, but I honestly can’t remember).

I have some really difficult and conflicting feelings about this.

Atheist now but raised a catholic. The bible is supposed to be the true word of god. No where in the new testament is there mention of a wife. That would mean the bible has been "lying" by omission.
