I also recommend, if you use an alert service- check ALL retailers when a single retailer’s alert comes through. The alerts typically come through several minutes late and its possible other retailers’ will be stocking on the same day. I got my PS5 on launch day through Amazon- after getting an alert for Walmart.

how’d Metroid Dread do?

All that work and he could have just typed “Metroid Prime”, highlighted it, and selected Papyrus.

HDMI is a mess. That, and the absolute insanity of modern TV settings. There is nothing “consumer” about a lot of it. I love my C1 OLED, but I REALLY appreciate the simplicity of my playing my old consoles on my CRTs.

and the unintended consequence is millions of gamers with young children will only be able to fit about 2 hours of many games into their lives anyway and this saves them a lot of $$

Still astounds me how Beyond Good and Evil 2 has been in development for so long. Equally crazy is that it’s some online game that doesn’t star the characters from the original. I think, in the time and money this game has been taking, they could have given us 2 offline single players sequels.

It’s really very simple. If a person isn’t into games or GTA, all they hear about it is how the news has said many times how bad gta is FOR KIDS. anyone from a distance is going to assume that means it’s something intended FOR kids.

family of 4- three of us like to play games. I used to travel a lot for work so I wanted to be able to take one with me and leave one home for the kids. Then COVID and Animal Crossing hit and that convinced me to get another so we could all visit each other’s island while we were quarantining.

It is puzzling. Given how long the Switch has been out and the exposure this issue has had, there must be some business reason for this. Somehow it must be more expensive to do R&D to the design, cost of new part(s) vs. old, and cover costs of manufacturing retooling than to pay these companies for constant repairs

I’ve sent in two (once recently) and they both came back fixed- so pretty amazing that some quality work is still happening with all the issues.

Hmm… may have to downscale this to 240p on the Retrotink 5x and play it on a CRT so the visuals aren’t as jarring.

Petunias? OK- at least that’s better than beaver anus glands that’s used for vanilla flavoring.

My mention of music was an example of issues others ran into with licensing costs. My main point was that licensing of cars may have been causing similar issues for them.

Oh that’s an interesting take. I could totally see some brand being that way about their brand or certain models.

Forza is a good counter-example, but the size of the franchises is a HUGE differentiator. Forza has sold FAR fewer copies as a franchise the GT. If the licensing costs are negotiated for each game- the manufacturers could be trying to cash in on GT’s sheer size as a franchise and its historical performance in sales.

very well could be- but I was keying on the bizarre statement he made about it being tied to real-world money. I took it as access to certain cars needs to have $$ tied to it for reasons he didn’t want to go into.

Just theorizing here, but we’ve seen over the last couple decades licensing costs on music skyrocket to the point that game remakes sometimes have to ditch the original soundtracks or certain tracks. Its very possible that car manufacturers are doing similar things with licensing to make more $$$ off of an industry

“it’s important for [in-game cars] to be linked with the real world prices.” It’s a baffling statement to make, since video game cars are fake and Sony can make them cost whatever they want.
