Most cars have a clutch safety switch after about 1980 or so. My dad’s 79 bronco could be driven just on the starter motor if you didn’t need it to go far.

That throwout bearing was temperamental. I had the same thing happen with mine. I just had them replace the whole assembly when it started that because it was ridiculous.

I had an SL1. Keep in mind that your car is not exactly the most modern - it was designed in the 80s. The only PITA that I had was getting the power-steering hose connected when the pump went bad - at just a hair over 100k miles.
