I was horrified to hear yet another story like this on the news last week. And then I was stunned to find out that the woman who was attacked is family to someone I work with every day.
I grew up in Cincinnati, which is a very conservative town in a very conservative state (with pockets of progressiveness). This is huge. WCPO posted on Facebook that Duke Energy changed their "Cincinnati" sign from white lights to rainbow in honor of Leelah Alcorn.
Baldwin posts idiotic Tweet "What's wrong, now, with a father marrying his son for love & to avoid tax penalties?" Writer calls him out on it. Nick Searcy joins in with the very effective argument against the writer, "You're fat!"
This is so beautifully written, I had to share it. But you will almost certainly cry.
(I actually got that photo from a site selling it in earnest — what the what?)
Well, damn, that didn't take long. Like I said before, my hairstylist is a genius. Maybe too much of one. The color she gave me last time I just loved so much. And now with my next appointment coming up on Friday...I am not sure I want to continue. Maybe I should just have her color in my roots, and take this up again…
A friend of mine shared this article on the history of blackface and it is an excellent overview of why going in blackface for Halloween (or ever) is not acceptable.
I was reading this excellent post about real-life creepy, and as eleanoraquitaine mentioned in the comments, a lot of stuff gets buried in the mainpage onslaught. So I thought I'd share my comment from the spooky stories post (which is kind of a misnomer for mine anyway since it wasn't spooky, just amazing) and ask…
This is only a test. I am so confused.
It's always a struggle to find movies that I find scary and also find watchable. (Part of the reason I am very excited about the Horror Movie Club around these parts.) Last night I a lot of searches for scary movies, and here are some roundups that include a lot of so-called gems I've yet to see.
Thanks everyone who read my earlier post about going gray. I got my hair done today and let my hairdresser know what I planned. She is clearly a genius, as you can see by these photos. When I went in, the 3/4-inch of gray was clearly visible, but she did this blending thing where she did not dye over it, but instead…
I was watching an interview with the women starring in the upcoming movie Enough Said, and though they dye their hair, it was so amazingly refreshing to me to see: Julie Louis-Dreyfuss has wrinkles and is letting herself AGE. Catherine Keener has wrinkles and is letting herself AGE. I couldn't stop looking at them and…
UPDATE: Added a couple links below! Also, please check the comments for links to more good sites, and please add your own.
THERE ARE NO SPOILERS IN THIS POST! I AM RANTING BECAUSE I AM SO ANGRY.
"I betrayed my husband and now my kids are going to suffer." Is this post sponsored by Tyler Perry? The author also states that once you think about cheating, it's already a done deal. Uh — huh? Wha? Dude, I've been married for ten years. You sometimes get attracted to other people. That's called being human. It is…
So I've been having a very difficult couple of weeks — just general depression and a lot of significant other fights. We are working on things, getting some professional help, etc. (There's no real rhyme or reason to this; I have a history of it but it hasn't been bad like this in a very long time.) At the same time,…
August 16: It's my birthday! Is it yours?
I am on the horns of a dilemma, and when you read this, you will wonder why I am still friends with these people. I kind of am too. But this is one of those "I feel X, my partner feels Y" situations. And I need help. Here goes.
