Oh yeah, it was meant as sarcasm. The “if it saves one life” logic is absurd. There are a million better ways to save one life. Hell, there are better ways to prevent DUIs per dollar spent than a checkpoint.
But often they use them to pop people for other things also, expired registration, expired inspection stickers or emissions, citations for tail lights, randomly hassling people who seem “suspicious” (You know, brown people). So often they ARE revenue generators.
Yup, same in California. Failure to notify ahead of time may violate the fourth amendment.
That’s why zero tolerance should be the standard. If you are driving you should always be 0 unless you have a medical reason. Impairment or not, if you know there is no “limit” you never have an excuse on getting caught short.
If taking away all cars gives you the chance to save 1 life, that’s ok by me.
That’s like saying that shooting every bear has the chance of saving at least 1 life that could be lost.
Those numbers seem impressive until you realize they don’t differentiate between 0.06 and impaired or 0.09 and not impaired at all. Like photo radar, this is about revenue not traffic safety.
I’m all for reporting a driver that’s noticeably impaired but stopping every single car that goes down a street on the off chance of catching the odd guy that’s 0.09 is bullshit.
Drunk driving is bad, but DUI checkpoints are just frickin’ revenue generators.
I disabled my Facebook account years ago but only finally permanently deleted it just last year. The real turning point for me was that I was finally honest with myself and accepted the fact that going on Facebook really did make me feel inadequate about my life (aka accepted that I had FOMO). All the other things…
Add me to the list of people that always have cut it this way (I’m so proud!)
Just curious how other people did it?
Been doing it this way for years. I started doing it with broccoli because it’s just the obvious way to cut the crowns into florets, and applied the same technique to cauliflower. For me, it had nothing to do with the small bits that fall off - it’s just the easiest way to break it down.
By now you’ve received emails and letters with “important tax information enclosed” and year-end investment…
I work desktop computer support. After i explain something, i don’t ask “Do you understand?”, instead asking “Did i do a good job explaining how this works?” Ensures good customer service, especially when your client is a dumbass.

It’s Marie Kondo’s world now, and we’re all just trying to declutter in it.
