When I pair my Note 2 up to my cars radio it shows the track title, artist, album, how far into the song it is, and a few other things. It shows it whether I'm using the stock app or one I downloaded. Maybe your radio doesn't support it? Mine is just a stock Toyota radio.

It looks like it is using googles voice recognition and then feeding it to their own processing centers. So it should be as good or better.
