I was amazed, when I first visited New Orleans, to hear some locals speaking in a Queens NY accent. At least, they sounded like Archie Bunker to these Canadian ears.

I think people are starting to think of the standard American accent as having more Canadian features, like the drawn out “O” sound.

Hmn. Not so fast. A British accent also signals to American audiences that the speaker is educated and refined. (At least, a “BBC” accent does. A West Yorkshire accent, not so much.)

It’s legit. Food Network host Bob Blumer featured a recipe for Dishwasher Salmon a few years ago.

Simple trick: say all the “ums’ and “ahs” you want, just say them silently to yourself. No one will mind (and indeed few will notice) the momentary delays, and you’ll sound like a more polished and confident speaker.

It will be interesting to see what Jezebel has to say about this. Or if indeed they’ll say anything at all.

Honestly, if even one man had mentioned sexual abuse during their Globes speech, we would right now be reading an article filled with outrage that men presume to speak about a woman’s pain when they can have no idea What! So! Ever!!! 

The proposed argument in favor of HOAs is that they preserve the high standards of the area, and therefore the value of the homes in that area.
