DNA is one of those things where Star Trek has absolutely no continuity. On one hand, ship’s sensors can detect life signs and identify the species. The transporters of course have extremely detailed information about the transported, and there’s some kind of analysis involved (they can detect and disable weapons, for

Re-commenting from a reply in the other article about this episode (was originally a reply to someone commenting about Star Fleet antics in DS9):

I think people complaining that Discovery is very different from the utopia of TOS need to watch TOS again with fresh eyes. The Federation of TOS is a rather screwed up place that spawned Garth of Izar, who tried to commit genocide and J ohn Gill, who decided not only to ditch the Prime Directive on Ekos, but to

Katharine, you have made it abundantly clear how much you dislike Discovery. That’s your opinion of it, and that’s fine, but two things:

Trendy needs to chill.

This pisses me off. It’s a great twist that is ruined for no reason other than Katharine is bad at this. I’ve been complaining about this website’s downward spiral for a while and though the articles are now cynical and trite they’ve never gone low enough to actually ruined a TV series for their entire reader base

I think you totally misunderstand the purpose of that plot development. The audience isn’t supposed to support Lorca’s decision: he’s being set up to represent a take-no-prisoners, ends-justify-the-means attitude—which shows up in *every* war, including those portrayed in Star Trek. It’s so obvious to me that the show

Saru has agonized over the death of his former captain, Georgiou. He’s brought it up several times, in previous episodes...and in this one. I think that points to why he is so dismissive about the life of the tardigrade. He was put in a terrible position, with little prior experience. What he does know is that his

I don’t think it’s unreasonable to say that styles, cultures, technologies and especially moral values can change in 10 years. Compare 2017 to 2007. Things weren’t WHOLLY different, but there’s a lot that’s unrecognizable. I don’t think it’s a wild leap to say that a brutal war transformed the Federation, and caused

I don’t think this is the same at all.

Haters gonna hate. The show is excellent.

A couple points of detraction to add to your list.

First, Kirk and Spock are just a short stint away in the timeline here. We’re a scant decade away from that future, and this show is undermining morality so that it can be spread throughout in such a short time from now? Sorry, but it is not plausible. Starfleet

What’s anti-trek is to cynically approach the story from the perspective that people are too emotional to overcome their failures.

That is exactly my point. We’ve come to expect high moral values from Star Trek without ever questioning what dark nights of the soul lead to those higher moral values.

I personally had a totally opposite experience with this episode and feel it’s one of the best of Trek ever. Out of any series.

If you are smoking, buy a preroll. DO NOT purchase anything with a THC content higher than 20%, aim for about 12-16%. Decide if you want to sit on a couch or go do stuff, are you interested in head (giggle weed) or body (can we order in?) and express this to the bud tender. Have water bottles handy. One hit is good.

Yeah, but why get upset of pre-production issues if the final product comes out okay?
