When I was 19 I killed a brand new Chrysler Sebring I was driving to the detail shop by crashing it into a tree, likely saving the owners life from death by boredom of driving a Sebring for multiple years.

If SUV drivers hug either the left or right line even just a little bit I have trouble seeing around them in my focus at safe following distances. Sometimes I can’t even see around them on my motorcycles. OP was exaggerating but it can be a problem.

I think it just looks cheap and cheaping out on apperance mods can reflect poorly on the owner and their views on maintenance, so yea, its a stereotype. It’s just almost always obvious that its a plasti-dipped part and doesn’t look nearly as good as powdercoating, at least from the jobs I have seen.
