No. You can make fun of anything. But you should be more careful when punching down. If the majority of your group is rich-ish and white-ish... maybe don’t make jokes at the expense of poor immigrants? Because at one point it’s just comes across as ignorant.

Go and watch a handful of new episodes. Sure, some are just God awful, but they’re not as bad as you think. Then, go back and watch the early Simpsons episodes. On the whole, they’re not as good as you remember.

Maybe I’m completely nuts but it makes me love her. She’s like a wrestling villain. Very few celebrities know how to rile up the masses like Lena Dunham. She is the white lady Kanye.

Most of the people here are criticizing Dunham for making a public statement in support of the accused during ongoing investigation. If you are going to criticize commentors here for making up their minds about guilt before the investigation is complete, then you should also level that criticism at Dunham.

That’s exactly my issue with it: just say nothing at all. Why would you consciously use your platform this way? Unless you were there, your “insider knowledge” is bull and if you were there, then wait to be called on as a witness. Otherwise stfu.

Last I checked, I wasn’t telling the government to shut her up. I was saying she was stupid. The stupidity of Dunham is what I’m arguing here, not the rape case. She didn’t have to open her mouth, but she did, and what came out was ambiguous trash. What’s not to understand?

She’s definitely wrong to think this is the right climate to issue that statement. If he’s innocent, that doesn’t get proven by what she said. Whether he’s innocent or not, that statement just gives license to every asshole on the planet to issue, “Not my friend” statements themselves.

Every time I bring it up I get a billion people telling me she’s not but I’ll say it again: Lena Dunham is an abuser so it’s really no surprise that she’s defending abuse. I don’t know why people insist she’s some “feminist icon.” Literally pick anyone else.

I really appreciate Sarah Silverman and how she’s attempting to take nuanced examinations of things. People are complex and often contradictory in their actions. And I appreciate her airing her thought process out loud.

Sounds to me like the apology was sincere, but only meant directly for you. He probably doesn’t have any issue with you personally or anything you have written, but obviously does have an issue with the company that you work for. To me this seems totally reasonable, your editors are a bit cynical themselves.
