You heard any of the stories about the writing process for x men 3? That mess was not the writers' fault.

Erm, apart from BFG, he hasn’t had a bomb in decades. Tintin was a bit soft but they’ll have made their money back. Everything else would have been pretty profitable. Financially he’s still one of the safest bets in Hollywood.

I’d have more faith in the look of the film if he wasn’t only working with Kaminsky as DP these days. He can do beautiful darker stuff (Private Ryan, AI, Schindlers List, Minority Report) but his lighter stuff can be too pastel and boring (BFG, Warhorse, Crystal Skull)

It’s usually impossible to prove that something didn’t happen, so the onus is on the person who makes a claim to provide evidence. Otherwise you can make up any old shit and then claim they can’t prove it’s not true.

Like how there are thousands of people around the world who worship me as a god, printing every AVClub

Netflix make several hundred TV shows year, I’d happily let them do at least one choose your own adventure thing per month. If it’s not for you, can’t you just ignore it like we all do with 95% of their shit?

1 - It definitely is funny. It’s parodic levels of grim and gritty nonsense.

It’s hard to break the cycle. This isn’t an excuse, just a sad reality. I’m a pro writer/director and we are looking for writers and directors for a new TV project pitch. We are keen to get women, but it’s hard because their relative lack of experience is always the reason used to not give them experience. It often

Oddly, studios tend not to say “we won’t hire her because she’s a woman.”. But there are tons of anecdotal examples of women directors not getting meetings. Just google old “can she direct action?” for loads of stories about that. Or Google interviews with female directors discussing sexism. Or look at how often men

I didnt realise you could do that. Thank you! I’m off to delete a few Star Wars vids and Jordan Peterson bollocks, from my history. I watched a couple of negative star wars reviews and a peterson interview a year ago and now my feed ks wall to wall I’ll informed videos about why all pop culture sucks cos of SJWs and

It's an amazing achievement, but I've tried to read the first collection about 6 times over the last decade and never managed to get more than about 40 pages in. The craft and accomplishment are undeniable and I'm glad people love it but I just couldn't get it to click with me.

The first pirates of the carribean is OK, the sequels are admittedly all shite. Rossios early run of script credits is actually very impressive. (you can’t judge anyone too harshly if the credit is ”story by”. God knows what bits are theirs.) Everything since has been pretty uninspiring.

Totally agree. Worsplayer is brilliant and I'm amazed how rarely I see it mentioned or recommended in online screenwriting circles. Nice to see the love in these comments. Pity that the article that brought it up is... yikes.

I’ve no strong feelings about Rossios online stupidity, but I just want to say his word player website is an amazing resource. It looks like it was made to be netscape 2.0 compliant, which is off-putting, but it is a brilliant screenwriting course. I’m lucky enough to be a professional screenwriter and it was an

Counterpoint, mediocre is the wrong word. It’s a flawed masterpiece. It’s doing things in terms of structure, plotting and philosophy that no sitcom has effectively pulled off. It's a sit con with no sit. And the price you pay for that is a lot of exposition. I get that's not everyone's bag, but mediocre it is not.

Again, that’s not really how the BBC works. The government placed a load of their people high up in the news and current affairs division. They also have some folk in general in upper management. They don’t bother with other divisions for a variety of reasons.

Patrick Willems videos are great. His recent two parter on the works of Michael Bay was a fascinating insight into the man.

It’s great that you Yanks are getting Derry Girls. If you can understand it, you’re in for one of the best Brit* comedies of the last decade. Profane, weird, unique and hilarious. Check it out.

“there’s no real sense for how scarce, or why.”

The director really undersold the tasks. A character says they wouldn't have had time to write "help me" on a note (a ten second task). But they have these incredibly casual and slow movements when they're actually working. There's no sense of urgency to the work. Which is bizarre, given that real Amazon keeps

Are you suggesting that the British government controls the subtext in Doctor Who? To make the public more suggestible to automation? Because that’s not how the BBC is run. The fuckers in government have too much indirect power over news, but they don’t bring agendas into other genres. I’ve worked on docs, current
