Luck is probability. It's about chance, and it can't be controlled. It's just that some people seem to—consistently—play the odds better than others. Persistent people appear "luckier" than others, most of the times because we don't see the enormous amount of bets that fell flat.

I think he just used it as a way of filtering people he'd meet. So for example, if he thought of the color green, then he'd just introduce himself to people wearing green. I imagine that even though it's a random filter, it helps him get un-stuck/un-paralyzed (instead of asking, "wow, who should I talk to?", the

For sure. Even if something doesn't have an immediate positive outcome, you never know when or how seemingly unrelated experiences or ideas come together down the line.

Wow, I imagine the shock would be pretty terrible. I think one simple solution is apparent in your story (call the child or grandchild, or the school!).

Right on, I doubt they have a do not call list (or would willingly put you on it) but hanging up early is a good tactic.
