I found a 2% hydra-cortisone cream (dr. prescribed for eczema elsewhere on my skin) has really made it less noticeable. I put it on after every shower. Also, I have a lot of freckles - so that helps with the camouflage....

Tupperware (and the like) containers are good for this as well. Once they look like they might be starting to leach chemicals into my food, or have lost the lid, or are so badly stained from spag sauce I can't bring myself to use them anymore, they are great for organizing junk, craft supplies, lego and so on.
I can't tell you about the rest of it, but I know how the scales are done. Fishnet stocking over your head, pat on the green, then remove the fishnet stocking. Ta da!
