Decriminalization of drug use in Portugal is not the same thing as legalizing drug dealing. Growing and dealing are still illegal in Portugal.

One of the things I love about Warren is her practicality. She’s got ideals, the data to back them up, and concrete solutions to make our lives better.
A van might be a good alternative for some cash-strapped communities. I doubt most safe injection sites are open 24 hours. A van doesn’t have to move from location to location, it can be there whenever the staff can be there, and it is less expensive than a storefront.
She’s going to stick with them, because she believes people who are not raped should not be allowed to have abortions.
Problem is, a lot of guys will pitch in equally and seem to be perfectly egalitarian before babies, but their contributions to the household fall once kids are in the picture: “A 2015 study found that working heterosexual couples performed 15 hours each of housework per week before having kids. After children, women…
Yep.
“wait until we figure out that a lot of “valuable” white collar jobs can be done better by a computer.”
We are going to wind up with robot baristas and robot everything else anyway. Robots just make too much sense from a profit perspective. However, unions can negotiate for human workers to lessen the financial impact of the transition to robot workers (doesn’t mean they will, but that is a useful thing unions could do).
Before the elections in 2016, I heard a person interviewed on NPR who said, “Tell me why I should vote for Clinton without using the words, ‘Supreme Court’,” - as if the Supreme Court didn’t matter! That person’s huge blind spot continues to irritate me to this day.
“I’ll just point out that one in ten Bernie Sanders primary voters voted for Trump in 2016.”
I am not convinced being anti-Democrat is very far from being pro-Trump, nor that an anti-Democrat voter is made uncomfortable by Trump’s racism. Anti-Democrat voters tend to vote that way because they are anti-abortion, anti-immigrant, anti-LGBTQ rights, anti-affirmative action, anti-gun control, and anti-government-a…

Congestion pricing for cities does have a measurable effect on traffic overall, though. People change when they take a car if they have to pay more at peak times. It may not affect how many total trips are taken, but it does make traffic run more smoothly.
“However, available information for other cities suggests less than a fifth of rides taken using the pooling option ‘with some of those trips carrying no additional passengers.’”
Laws do not exist for the sake of existing. They exist to further our pursuits of life, liberty and happiness. If a law is not contributing to those ends, it is a poorly crafted law and should not be defended by our state department.
I have no doubt many Republican Senators would be happy to drop Trump like a hot potato. The problem is their base still loves Trump. As long as the Republican base stands behind Trump, GOP politicians will as well.
There are already investigations underway. Hopefully what they uncover will be enough to dissuade people from voting for him in the election.
“We get a year of a Pence presidency, and everything actually turns into a Margaret Atwood story?”
This presumes we remain a democracy. I shall certainly vote, and all my friends vote, and we all vote blue, and we will continue to vote, but I am feeling less optimistic than usual. I am concerned that all the voting will not be able to stop an American autocracy - which could last a generation or two. Again, my…
Republicans would also like to remove government assistance.
