Here’s a truism about medicine. The rich and famous get more care, but not necessarily better care. If he was sick enough to need ECMO and he was the only one who survived, then it was probably due to medical comorbidities and random luck, probably not any special treatment.

Not that any particular type death is pleasant, but dying of liver failure, which is usually the result of alcoholism,  might be one of the most agonizing and protracted ways to leave this earth.

Reading this review, I couldn't help but think of one of the locals saying something like "I hear you're a racist now, Father. How'd you get into that sort of thing?"

The sequel poster doubled down on that particular, um, attribute.

I don’t know about this film, but in real life, the guy was a nurse, not a doctor. And the problem wasn’t that he perpetually made mistakes, its that he deliberately killed patients assigned to his care.

I had never heard of the character before reading this article, but now having Googled him, I'm pretty sure if I had been a closeted gay kid who liked superheros, he would have been a favorite of mine.

Can’t be, My Summer Story had different actors.  Unless they did a really good job of making them look like the original actors.

I know two reasons in particular why this movie was popular with guys at the time...

I’m almost certain I once saw a few minutes of something on TV that featured a slightly older Peter Billingsly and Scott Schwartz (or maybe Ian Petrella) but obviously playing their characters from a Christmas Story. The setting appeared to be summer and they were sitting in someone’s office discussing a job. That’s

No, that’s not what I meant. I was referring to the the way liquor is sold differently in VT than other states where you can buy hard liquor in grocery stores, or privately-owned liquor stores that don’t have any particular stipulations placed on them by the state. It’s more restricted here, if not quite as

I don’t drink anymore, so I’m not sure how exactly they sell hard liquor in Vermont, but it seems like non-restaurant businesses that sell it need to operate under some kind of special jurisdiction of the state. They do sell hard liquor in grocery stores, but always in a closed-off area that has more limited hours

OK, I knew about the farm with the guns and marijuana, but was the booze stealing part previously reported?

Not that I think the Austin Powers movies were any particularly high moment in the history of cinema, but I think at least there they were parodying the Bond films, where the female leads change every film with almost no explanation.

I have two reasons why we stopped eating out.  They are currently aged 4 and 10 months.  You should thank me for keeping them at home.

For some reason, our local library had a 16mm copy that they would show on “Movie Afternoons” (always timed on school holidays, so working parents had a place to dump off their kids) with whatever other movie they could get their hands on that week. How and why our small suburban library obtained a film copy of

Because... these people are shallow?

It’s interesting, then, that Julie Bowen was pregnant during the pilot of Modern Family- watch it with that knowledge and you can’t help but notice how hard they try to keep her abdomen hidden. I guess that’s kind of a happy story that they accommodated her, also considering that she wasn’t particularly well known to

I did not know he was Scottish.

So, do you want a world where doctors don’t care about the health risks associated with obesity, just some magic test that gives them “permission” to be fat, in spite of the horrifying heart disease statistics?”

Name recognition, so easy marketing.
